Vaccination Information
Alberta is moving from a three-dose vaccine schedule in Grade 5 to a two-dose vaccine schedule in Grade 6 for both HBV and HPV. They are making this change because administering two doses at least six months apart has been shown to provide children with good protection against HBV and HPV diseases. Our current Grade 6’s will not receive immunizations this year as they had them last year. Our current grade 5’s will not receive immunizations until they are in Grade 6.
The Grade 9 school immunization program including the diphtheria, tetanus and acellular pertussis (dTap) and Meningococcal (MenC-ACYW) vaccines will continue to be offered.
Beginning in the 2018-19 school year, public health nurses will also be offering immunizations to students in Grades1 to 9 who are missing immunizations.
More details on the immunization schedule for children is available on the Alberta Health website.
Nut Safe School
West Ridge is a “Nut Safe” school and we ask all students to bring only nut-free items to school. See Illness & Medical to learn more about allergy awareness.
Health & Wellness at the CBE
At the CBE, we believe in a whole school approach to health and wellness. We call this our Comprehensive School Health (CSH) approach. CSH is about healthy eating, active living, supportive social environments and positive mental health. As a system, we focus on the following four areas: healthy eating; healthy relationships; physical activity; and positive mental health. Each school creates its own approach and goals for health and wellness.
