Provincial Achievement Tests (PAT) are part of a balanced, broad-based program of student assessment for Grades 6 and 9 students. The results provide some of the information that guides our educators as they set targets for student achievement and track the results of school improvement initiatives. Visit the CBE website for more information on our students’ provincial testing.

Teachers will remain focused on delivering the programs of study for all courses and will continue to assess student achievement based on the grade level outcomes as determined by the Government of Alberta.

Please check our Calendar page for dates.

If your child is in Grade 6 or 9 at West Ridge this year, you have received a parent letter with information regarding the administration of Provincial Achievement Tests (PATs).

Please note: Alberta Education has announced that Grade 6 English language arts and literature (ELAL) and mathematics provincial achievement tests will not be administered in the 2023/2024 school year

You will also be receiving more information around PATs from your child's teachers. Please note that the PAT parent guide book for each specific grade, which are located on this page.

There is another great resource that parents may also want to use with their child to review for upcoming PATs called “The Key Study Guide” which is completely aligned with the Alberta programs of study and is available at Amazon or Chapters/Indigo for purchase around $30. These books have review notes and practice questions that are easily accessible for parents and students.

Please contact Adam Brophy if you have any generic questions about the administration of provincial exams. Please contact teachers with any discipline and content specific questions about these exams.

Volunteer as a Reader / Scribe

We are looking for a volunteer group to help act as readers / scribes for the Provincial Achievement Tests. You do not need to work every day but whatever support you can give is greatly appreciated. Our main need occurs during the written exams. If you are available to help us out please e-mail Mr. Adam Brophy or Ms. Christie Gordon  to express your interest. Thanks so much!
