Safe and Secure School

West Ridge School, like other school in the CBE, had a new video surveillance system installed to help maintain a safe and secure environment at the school for students, staff and the public, and to help address vandalism and criminal activity on school property.

The video surveillance system is installed and reviewed in accordance with Administrative Regulation 1066. Personal information is collected under the authority of the School Act and the Protection of Privacy Act (POPA), specifically section 10(1) and the Access to Information Act (ATIA).

This technology can be placed in areas such as the school parking lot, building entrances and exits, stairwells and hallways. This information is recorded and collected to help maintain a safe and secure environment in the school and on school property. Only the principal or designate and law enforcement personnel have access to the video in the case of reported incidents that would require an investigation. Only authorized persons will review video surveillance information.

Inquiries concerning the video surveillance system, or the collection and use of recorded information may be made by contacting the school office.

Lunar New Year

West Ridge School wishes a joyful and prosperous Lunar New Year to all students, staff, and families celebrating. May this new year bring good health, happiness, and a strong sense of community.

Field Trips

We enjoyed two more ski trips earlier this week. Our Grade 8s were at Mt. Norquay, who is celebrating their 100th season, and our Grade 9s were at Lake Louise. Both of these trips had fantastic weather with plenty of smiles and laughter.

Unfortunately, our final ski trip of the year (which was supposed to be our Grade 5 trip)  has been cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances at WinSport. Additional information about this cancellation will be sent directly to our Grade 5 families. We apologize for this inconvenience and we are just as disappointed with this announcement as you are.

Athletics

Last week both of our junior teams made it to the finals of our Rally on the Ridge Junior Volleyball Tournament. The Jr. Boys pulled out a victory, while the Jr. Girls lost a hard fought game to finish in second place. Our Jr. Boys were the only team in action this week, as the rest were on bye due to a short week. The Jr. Boys won one and split the other. Both junior teams, and the Sr. Girls, resume regular season games next week (our Sr. Boys are on another bye week), with our Sr. Girls hosting games on February 18. Both of our senior teams are also competing in the Ernest Manning Feeder Tournament on February 20. Best of luck to them!

For a full list of games, locations, and times, please visit our Athletics website.

From The PE Department

We are still missing many Human Sexuality opt-in/opt-out forms. If you have not already done so, please ensure that you have returned that form for your child. Without it, we must assume your child is opting out of this unit and will need alternative work during this time.
