Musical Set Building A Go-Go!

Technical Theatre students have started in on set painting and props building this week, starting with painting all of our platforms back to base black.

These students will be working diligently to learn and create scenic painting techniques, build set pieces and build both large and small props in preparation for our musical on April 29, 30, May 1, and May 2, 2026.

Call for Donations!

While in this building process, students will need the following recyclable items:

-cardboard boxes (small, medium and large

-stuffing (like the inside of stuffed animals)

-paper towel and wrapping paper tubes

-styrofoam balls, shapes

If you have these items to donate, please email Mrs. Lutz (kllutz@cbe.ab.ca) to arrange drop off.

Thank you so much for supporting our school musical!

Raptors Athletics

Field Trips

Our third ski/snowboard trip of the year is happening early Monday morning at Mt. Norquay. Any Grade 8 students who are attending this trip need to be at school by 6:45am for attendance. The buses are leaving at 7:00am and will not be waiting for any late students. We should be back at the school by 4:30pm.

Athletics

Our Jr. Boys had a bye during regular season play this week, however our Jr. Girls, Sr. Girls, and Sr. Boys were all back in action. The Sr. Boys split their first game and won their second, the Sr. Girls won one and lost one, and our Jr. Girls won both of their games to remain undefeated. Only our Jr. Boys have games next week as our other three teams are on a bye week. For a full list of games, locations, and times, please visit our Athletics website.

Both of our junior teams are competing in West Ridge School’s Rally on the Ridge Junior Volleyball Tournament this week. Tournament playoffs and championship games were held Friday afternoon and we were happy to see so many current and former students come out and support Raptor Volleyball!

From The PE Department

We are still missing a pile of Human Sexuality opt-in/opt-out forms. If you have not already done so, please ensure that you have returned that form for your child. Without it, we must assume your child is opting out of this unit and will need alternative work during this time.

Pink Shirt Day - Feb 25

Pink Shirt Day originated in Halifax, Nova Scotia back in 2008 with two high school aged students that saw a need to be kind while another student was not being treated with kindness and respect. That one act of compassion quickly spread beyond the school. In 2008, British Columbia’s provincial government proclaimed a provincial Anti-Bullying Day in February, and over time the idea of wearing pink to stand against bullying spread throughout Canada and then internationally. Today, Pink Shirt Day is observed annually in Canada on the last Wednesday of February.

Pink Shirt Day is now a national and global movement that encourages people of all ages to:

  • Wear pink as a visible symbol of support for kindness, inclusion, and respect for others.
  • Raise awareness and start conversations about why bullying is harmful and what we can do to prevent it.
  • Raise funds for programs that help children and youth build healthy self-esteem, resilience, and safe environments.

The Calgary Board of Education recognizes Pink Shirt Day across all schools and offers professional learning and classroom resources that support a strength-based approach to well-being, emphasizing schoolwide and classroom supports for students. As an organization, through Pink Shirt Day we honour the grassroots act of kindness and reaffirm our shared commitment to reducing bullying and creating welcoming, caring safe and respectful spaces for everyone.

Promoting inclusion is something that occurs in our schools every day. Check out some of the information and resources available! Creating Safe and Caring School Environments

Safe and Secure School

West Ridge School, like other school in the CBE, had a new video surveillance system installed to help maintain a safe and secure environment at the school for students, staff and the public, and to help address vandalism and criminal activity on school property.

The video surveillance system is installed and reviewed in accordance with Administrative Regulation 1066. Personal information is collected under the authority of the School Act and the Protection of Privacy Act (POPA), specifically section 10(1) and the Access to Information Act (ATIA).

This technology can be placed in areas such as the school parking lot, building entrances and exits, stairwells and hallways. This information is recorded and collected to help maintain a safe and secure environment in the school and on school property. Only the principal or designate and law enforcement personnel have access to the video in the case of reported incidents that would require an investigation. Only authorized persons will review video surveillance information.

Inquiries concerning the video surveillance system, or the collection and use of recorded information may be made by contacting the school office.
