Robot Jousting

In Robotics 7, with Mr. Stratton, the students have been using the Lego Prime Robotics Kits to explore different challenges.  After building their robot, the students coded the computer hub, instructing the robot perform specific tasks.  In this, the final challenge, the students built a "Jousting robot”.  The robot needed to have a lance that dropped down, a knight standing on top, and the robot needed to follow a coloured line along the “tilt” (centre line in jousting).

The object of the challenge was to “un-horse” your opponent.

This week we competed in our" Tournament of Champions" to determine whose robots would prevail.  Here is a short example of some of the fun we had competing and exploring this unique challenge.

Grade 6 PAT Results

Individual Grade 6 PAT results from the 2024-25 school year were sent home on Thursday and Friday. If your child(ren) were at West Ridge School for Grade 6 please check with them as they should have brought their results home for you to see. If your child was at a different schools ithin Alberta then that school will be sending the results to you.

Dogs on School Properties

This is a friendly reminder that dogs are not permitted on school property including playgrounds, sports field, compounds, and pathways. This aligns with the City of Calgary Responsible Pet Ownership Bylaw and CBE Administrative Regulation AR6004 - Animals in Schools.

We ask families to please keep this in mind and be respectful of the impact that animals can have on some students, particularly some of our younger friends next door at West Springs School.  Thank you for helping keep this a safe environment for everyone.

Bell Let’s Talk Day - Jan 21

This year’s theme for Bell’s Let’s Talk Day is taking a moment for mental health. Canadians will be encouraged to prioritize mental health and give mental health the moment it deserves:

  • Moments to take care of and be in tune with your own mental health
  • Moments to reach out to those around you, caring for their mental health
  • Moments to recognize the societal importance of mental health, which can take many forms – from flag raisings, school assemblies, sharing personal stories, to learning and listening

West Ridge School will be engaging in various activities as we reflect on our own mental health and how to help others. As part of this we are asking for students to:

Calendar

We were made aware that many families use the main calendar on the West Ridge School website to help keep them up to date. Therefore, we have started to work on updating this to match what we put in this weekly update.

Thank you for letting us know so that we can improve on our communication with you and also for your patience as we work to update the calendar.
