Thank You
As we come to the end of another school year, I want to thank our entire school community. To our students, families, and all staff (teachers, office, support, and facility) your commitment and care are what make our school such a strong and welcoming place.
I also want to thank our School Council and Parent Society for the lunch they provided on Wednesday.. It was very much appreciated, and it was great to see staff take the time to connect and enjoy it together. It was a nice moment to allow us to come together and pause, for at least a few minutes, at the end of a busy year.
It has been a privilege to work alongside this community. I wish everyone a safe and restful summer, and I look forward to welcoming you back in the fall.
Students returning to West Ridge School will receive an email of introduction from their 2026-27 Homeroom Teachers before the first day of classes. In the fall, all students will be returning to school on Monday, August 31.
I will be sending out a school messenger about a week before the start of school with more details about school start-up. You can visit the school website for more back to school details: https://westridge.cbe.ab.ca/back-to-school
Year End Message to Students
Below is the message that I shared with students at the final year end assembly on Friday.
At the start of this year, I was one of the new ones. Well, me along with Mrs. Carter, Ms. Santo, Ms. Adams, Ms. Flower, Ms. Taylor, and Mr. Whelan.
But when I first got here, I didn’t really know anyone yet. The routines were different, the expectations were new, and I was still trying to figure out how I would fit in.
I was a bit nervous, a little uncertain, but also excited about what could be ahead.
Then the first day of school happened. I took a deep breath, stepped forward, and hoped for the best.
And then, slowly, good things began to happen. A smile was met with another smile. Someone said hello. A student helped me out. A class included me. Slowly, the unfamiliar started to feel a little more familiar.
Being new is not always easy. Growing up is not always easy either. And as your new Principal this year, I had questions, I had hopes, and I had a picture in my mind of what this school might be.
I hoped to find a school with incredible staff who care deeply about students. I hoped to see students who worked hard, treated each other well, and brought kindness into our hallways and classrooms. I hoped to be part of a community that was welcoming, supportive, and proud of its school.
And as this year wraps up, I am grateful to say that is exactly what I found.
This year, I have seen so many examples of what makes West Ridge special. I have seen your effort in classrooms, your courage in trying new things, your pride in your accomplishments, and your kindness in how you treat one another. Those moments matter. They are what makes a school feel like a community.
To all of the students, we are proud of you. We are proud of your hard work, your growth, your accomplishments, and the way you have supported each other throughout the year. Each of you has contributed something important to West Ridge School.
I also want to thank our staff. They have worked incredibly hard this year to make West Ridge a place where students feel welcomed, supported, and challenged to grow.
As we look ahead to next year, we want to keep building on that work. We want West Ridge to be a place you want to come to each day, a place where you feel like you belong, where your well-being matters, and where you are supported as learners and as people.
We also want to continue finding more ways for you to show what you know. You are capable of incredible things, and learning does not always look the same for every student. Our goal is to give you opportunities to demonstrate your strengths, your creativity, your thinking, and your smarts in meaningful ways.
As we head into summer, I hope you take a moment to be proud of how far you have come. Be proud of the challenges you worked through, the things you learned, and the person you are becoming.
Thank you for the wonderful year!
Have a safe, restful, and well-earned summer.

Reflecting Student Learning - Report Cards & IPPs
West Ridge School continues to support students in developing a growth mindset while enhancing their resiliency in learning. As such, emphasis continues to be placed on the process that students go through rather than the final product they produce. Students are encouraged to take risks, push the boundaries, and see what is possible.
We do our best to focus on student progress and help students see where they were, where they are, and where they are trying to get to in their learning. This way the priority is the learning rather than the “mark” and students begin to take more ownership over their learning.
We hope that you see this reflected in the report card comments, which along with the achievement indicators, provides a better perspective of how your child is progressing in their learning. The area(s) that students see the most progress in and the rate at which they progress are just as unique as each student. We would like you to be proud of and focus on celebrating your child’s successes as we work together to support their learning.
For consistency within the CBE, the style and structure of the comments will be similar in each school. Like last year, the comment will include a proficiency descriptor, the stem/outcome/area of curriculum it relates to, evidence of student learning, and success criteria. Areas for Growth with also include an action to support continued growth.
Kindergarten to Grade 9 report cards are now available for viewing online through your My CBE Power School account..
Parents and Guardians can sign in to MyCBE to view student information, including report cards, comments from your child’s teacher, assignments and grades, and attendance information. For the best access to information, log in through the MyCBE portal, using a web-browser like Chrome or Safari instead of using the PowerSchool App.
