Meal Planning with Grade 5
We are very proud of how well the Grade 5s represented West Ridge with their Meal Plan Project during their visit to the grocery store! Our youngest Raptors showed the community their excellence and enthusiasm for learning about budgets and nutrition as they explored No Frills this week. We expect to see even more positive results when they visit Co-op next week.
To prepare for this project, students consulted the Canadian Food Guide to design a typical meal their families would enjoy. They reviewed itemized receipts and grocery store flyers to help them estimate costs and develop a budget. From there, they created a grocery list to compare their estimates with actual prices in the store. As we toured the stores, students oriented themselves to the various food departments, located specific items on the shelves, and recorded the prices.
Next, we will compare the prices and budgets to determine how much the meal would cost at No Frills and whether the cost differs at Co-op.
Our Grade 5 students did an excellent job representing West Ridge and showed the community that Raptors are kind, polite, and enthusiastic learners. Well done, Raptors!
Student Led Conferences
We look forward to seeing you on Thursday, March 19 for Student Led Conferences. The conferences are designed to give students the opportunity to share their learning, guide their families through classroom activities, and highlight growth and goals. These are not scheduled one‑on‑one meetings with teachers; instead, they offer a broad overview of your child’s learning across subjects through their own voice. Students must attend.
Thursday Evening Schedule - March 19
To support a steady flow through the building and to provide opportunities to visit all of your classes, families are invited to attend during their designated time slot. We encourage you to visit all of your child’s complimentary classes, even those from the previous semester, and also check in with the Physical Education team.
Thursday, March 19, 2026
- 5:00–6:00 p.m. – Families with last names A–J
- 6:00–7:00 p.m. – Families with last names K–Z
If you would like to discuss your child’s progress in more detail, have specific concerns, or require an individual meeting, we encourage you to reach out directly to your child’s teacher to arrange a separate conversation.
Teachers are hosting invite‑only Friday meetings for situations where a more individualized discussion is needed.
Raptors Physical Education & Athletics
Physical Education
Next week is the start of our Dance module in Physical Education class. All students will be receiving instruction on various types of line/social dances, as well as some opportunity to participate in some Just Dance activities. On Thursday, March 19 there will be two instructors here from Pulse Dance Studio teaching students the basics of hip hop dance. This is always a fun, interactive unit that most students look forward to. Please ensure your child has appropriate indoor athletic footwear to take part in this unit.
Volleyball
Playoff season is underway! Our Jr. Girls and Jr. Boys won their semi-final games in straight sets and booked their tickets to the finals. All of our athletes represented West Ridge very well. Thank you to all the coaches (Ms. Adams, Ms. Olesen, Mr. Whelan, Ms. Angel, and Mr. Braynen) for your time and dedication to coaching this past season.
