E-Sports Champions

West Ridge School has proudly finished its first full year of eSports with the Raptor Gaming Club, a dedicated group of students in Grades 7 to 9. Over the course of the year, club members met regularly to build their skills in teamwork, strategy,  and communication, while fostering a strong sense of community and school spirit.

The Raptor Gaming Club competed in a variety of local, regional, and provincial tournaments, representing West Ridge with pride and sportsmanship. Their hard work and commitment culminated in an exciting trip to Bow Valley College, where they competed in the Provincial Championships against top student players from across Alberta.

We are thrilled to celebrate the outstanding accomplishments of our students, including Joshua Park, who captured 1st place, and Constantine Stathakos, who earned an impressive 5th place finish. These achievements reflect not only individual skill, but also the dedication, perseverance, and collaborative spirit of the entire team.

Congratulations to all of our Raptor Gaming Club members for an incredible inaugural season. We look forward to building on this success in the years to come!

Science Without Borders Winner

We are proud to recognize Olivia Shin for her outstanding international achievement in the 2026 Science Without Borders® Challenge. Olivia earned 1st place in the 11–14 age category, competing against nearly 900 students from 65 countries.

Her winning artwork, The Giant and the Invisible: A Story of Ocean Recycling, is a powerful charcoal piece created on recycled cardboard. In her work, Olivia shows how microscopic marine organisms break down a whale carcass on the ocean floor, playing a critical role in recycling nutrients and sustaining deep-sea ecosystems. Her artistic choices and clear connection to environmental science highlight both her creativity and her understanding of scientific concepts.

Olivia shared that she was inspired by how microorganisms work together, comparing their interaction to a game of Tetris.

This accomplishment is a tremendous achievement, and we are incredibly proud of Olivia for representing West Ridge on the global stage. Congratulations on this well-deserved recognition!

Raptors PE & Athletics

Physical Education

We want to extend a HUGE thank you to our parent community. We had a few parents drop-off left-handed golf clubs, which really bolstered our equipment for the golf unit. Several of our classes used the clubs this week and it went very well. Thanks again!

Athletics

We have finished tabulating the Track Day results and Version 1 has been posted outside the PE office. Congratulations to all those students who will be representing West Ridge at the upcoming Track Meet. We will be having a meeting on Monday, May 25 at lunch in the Main Gym to confirm with students on that list if they will be attending the Track Meet. The Track Meet has been scheduled for Monday, June 8 from 9:00am - 3:30ish. If your child currently has a spot on our Track Team and is unable to attend Monday’s meeting, please have them check-in with Mr. Braynen, Ms. Angel, or Mr. Dixon so we can confirm their attendance and provide them with details they may have missed. Track paperwork will also be coming in the middle of next week.

This past Friday was our final Grade 5 Developmental Badminton session. Thank you to all the students who participated and to Ms. Armstrong and Mr. Strattong for running those sessions. We look forward to seeing you all at Grade 6 tryouts next season!

Night of the Raptors

An email detailing specifics about Night of the Raptors was sent to all of our Grade 6-9 families on Thursday afternoon. Please refer to that email for details about this celebration that is happening on June 18.

Class Creation & Friend Requests for 2026/27

We are inviting families to share their input as we begin planning for the upcoming school year. The form provides an opportunity for you to offer insight into your child’s peer connections, and any additional information that may support their success at school.

As we create class groupings, we take a number of factors into consideration, including class size, student learning needs, and the overall balance of each classroom. While we are not able to guarantee specific requests, your feedback plays an important role in helping us make thoughtful, student-centred decisions.

We encourage all families to take a few minutes to complete the form using the link below:

Spirit Week

Get ready, West Ridge—Spirit Week is here!

Our Grade 8 and Grade 9 Leadership Teams have planned a full week of fun, creativity, and school spirit. We encourage all students to get involved, show their personality, and join in on the excitement each day:

Monday: Mix It Up Monday
Go all out! Dress as wacky as you like—mix and match colours, try an 80s style, or rock a wild hair day. The more creative, the better!

Tuesday: Celebrity Look-Alike
Dress as your favourite celebrity, athlete, or entertainer. Our Leadership Team will be trying to guess who you are!

Wednesday: Emoji Day
Bring your favourite emoji to life! Create a face using a paper plate, wear it on a shirt, or design your own—have fun with it.

Thursday: Raptor Thursday
Show your school pride! Wear Raptor colours or create your own Raptor-themed outfit. Our Leadership Team and mascot will be visiting classrooms, don’t miss your chance for a photo!

We’re looking forward to seeing the creativity and school spirit across the building. Let’s make it a great week, West Ridge!
