Pancake Breakfast

What a wonderful way to end the first week of school. A huge thank you to West Ridge School Council for putting on such an incredible event that brought students and staff together to enjoy some food, have some fun, and play some games. A special thank you to Mr. Fong for organizing the event, and also all of the parent volunteers who helped make it happen. I was truly impressed by the amount of support from the school community.

Sport Court Update

We are happy to announce that the Sport Court surface has been patched and the broken basketball hoop reinstalled. We are just waiting on the brackets for the tennis nets to be welded, and also some trodden-down student paths to the sports courts to be paved. We hope this will be completed in the next few weeks.

It is with the support of the West Ridge School Council and the kind donation from the West Springs/Cougar Ridge Community Association that we were able to make these improvements. We are so lucky to be part of such a great community.

Walking Field Trips

The CBE values the educational benefit of field trips. Field trips close to our school can complement classroom learning by giving students opportunities to explore the community around their school.

Please be advised that the process for trips within walking distance of the school has been simplified, excluding restricted activities, e.g. swimming. As parents/guardians, you will no longer need to fill out a consent form for your child to go on a class trip that is walking distance from the school, e.g. to a local park.  Appropriate walking distance is determined by the Principal and may vary, depending on the age/ability of the students.

Teachers will provide at least 24 hours’ notice when planning a trip to a local site. You will be notified about these trips by email.

As with any field trip, we want to inform you about some common hazards involved with walking trips. Please note that this list may not include all of the hazards for a given trip: Slips, trips and falls; Getting separated from the group; Street crossings; Pre-existing medical conditions and/or allergies; Exposure to infectious diseases (eg. COVID-19 virus, SARS, MERS, influenza).

If you have any questions regarding field trips within walking distance of the school, please contact Mr. Lang or your child’s teacher.

Forms Update

If you have not already done so, please complete the forms below through your MyCBE PowerSchool account. The CBE has sent out reminder emails too. Last week I mentioned paper forms that were to go home. Instead, we are providing those below as they are not all applicable

  • Demographic Verification - 2025-26 – This form includes your child’s personal information as well as parent / legal guardian contact information.
  • Citizenship Information Update - 2025-26 – This form becomes available if you change your child’s citizenship information on the Demographic Verification form.
  • Annual Authorizations - 2025-26 – This form provides consent for school and district use of personal information.
  • Annual Volunteer Registration - 2025-26 - This form replaces the paper copy of the Annual Volunteer form.

SchoolEngage is one of the applications found in your MyCBE account. This is the same account you use to pay fees, view academic information, book school conferences, register for busing, etc.

If you do not have a MyCBE account, on the MyCBE page click on Create a MyCBE Account. For online help, refer to MyCBE - Creating an Account (includes instructions and a video).

Other Forms/Documents:

We are also encouraging all families to register to receive commercial electronic messages so that you receive all messages from your child’s teacher, West Ridge School, and the Calgary Board of Education. To register, please visit this site: http://calgary.schoolmessenger.com/cbe_subscribe.
