Dear Families,

First off, we just wanted to say thank you to all of our students and families who participated in Ernest Manning’s Big Band Gala last night.  They did a fabulous job representing our school!

A transition is happening with our front office staff this week, as we say farewell to our Administrative Secretary Diane Taylor and welcome Silvana Arezo to West Ridge. 

We also want to share that our Open House will be taking place on April 17th from 5-6:30pm where we will be inviting our new families to join us in meeting our staff, touring spaces and learning about our school. If you are new to our school or know someone who will be joining us next year, please join us next Wednesday.

PE Weekly Update - Badminton

Our season is just about ready to begin! Tryouts for our teams will be wrapping up in the coming days and we are excited to commence our full practice schedule. Please refer to the schedule below for practice days & times through April. All teams will be participating in an Exhibition Tournament at the beginning of May directly followed by our Divisional Playoffs. 

Final Tryouts: (invites only for final tryouts - lists are posted outside the Phys Ed office)

• Grade 6 -  Monday April 15th @ 7:15 am  BOYS ONLY
• Grade 7 - Thursday, April 11th @ 3:15 pm 
• Grade 8 -  Monday April 15th @ 3:15 - 4:30 pm

GARDEN CLUB AT WESTRIDGE SCHOOL!

We are starting a Garden Club at West Ridge and are looking to create a parent committee!  If you have an interest in gardening,  love being outside and meeting other parents, have connections in the community to any resources or supplies, are willing to do some fundraising, and/or would love to be a part of the inauguration of THE WESTRIDGE GARDEN, we would love to have you.  We are hoping to get our Parent Committee involved in sponsorship funding, parent council funding and curating a list of contacts in our community, who could assist in getting us off the “ground”.

Messages from School Council & Society

Hello, parents of West Ridge students!

We need the help of our parent community, to ensure the success of our students and school initiatives. Together we support the kids and staff at West Ridge School by building community, supporting learning, and adding as much fun as we can.

We are looking for a few volunteers to fill the vacant roles for the 2024-2025 school year!

West Ridge Society

The Society is responsible for fundraising to help support the students and staff, providing funding for our welcome back pancake breakfast, technology, classroom resources, field trips, speakers for students and/or parents, plus so much more! 

President:

Hosts the budget and AGM meetings but can update at all other meetings of fundraising initiatives. Works with the administration of West Ridge to understand what items are needed for the school and then works with the society team to put together fundraisers.  

Treasurer Trainee:

Will work directly with the treasurer and be given more tasks/responsibilities as the year progresses as they feel comfortable. The treasurer is responsible for looking after all incoming and outgoing monies from fundraisers and school purchases.  Responsible for preparing and presenting the yearly budget and financials.  Prepares reports for government agencies as needed.

Fundraiser Coordinator:

Works with the society team to help come up with and administer fundraising initiatives.

Healthy Hunger Coordinator: 

Selects and communicates with restaurants to set dates for ordering.  Sets up the Healthy Hunger website for the school (entering teachers by grade).  Forwards distribution lists via email to school admin and Healthy Hunger Volunteer Lead.

West Ridge School Council

The School Council provides parents with the opportunity to contribute to the school community in a variety of ways. 

Welcome Breakfast Coordinator Trainee:

Works directly with the lead coordinator to learn and take over the position for the following year. (The Welcome Breakfast Coordinator is responsible for overseeing the welcome back pancake breakfast. This role starts at the end of the previous school year and does require minimal work during the summer of ordering equipment and gathering items.  Organizes volunteers for the event day (set-up, distribution, take-down).  Submits receipts to society treasurer.)

Members at Large:

asked to attend 3-4 meetings throughout the year, providing an opportunity to contribute to the decisions, gather & share ideas from the parent community, and take on small roles within the council if desired. This role would require 3-4 hours throughout the year, regular meeting attendance is not required.
