Here are our updates for the upcoming week:

Please remember there will be no classes from Thursday, February 13th until Monday, February 17th, returning to the school building on Tuesday, February 18th.

 

Athletics

Ski Trips

It was a busy week for ski trips with our Grade 8s at Mount Norquay on Monday and then our 9s were at Lake Louise on Wednesday. We had chilly starts on both days but nobody really seemed to mind! Please note our second group of Grade 7s (homerooms 74 and 76) will be headed to Nakiska on Tuesday, February 18. Students need to be at school by 8:15am for attendance and bag checks. We will be returning to the school by 5:00pm. Please ensure your child has enough warm clothing to be prepared for the day. Upcoming ski trips are as follows:

  • Feb. 18 - Grade 7s @ Nakiska (homerooms 74 and 76)
  • Feb. 27 - Grade 6s @ Nakiska

Volleyball

All of our volleyball teams were on byes this week but are back in action after the long weekend. Our Jr. Boys are hosting games on February 19. All the action starts at 4:30pm, so come out and support the team. All four of our teams are also competing in the Springs Smash Tournament at Marshall Springs School from February 20-22. Attendance

Please call 403-817-3552 and dial 1 if your child will be absent. Please leave a brief message including only the student’s last name, first name and reason for their absence.

Alternatively, please email us at westridge@cbe.ab.ca to report the absence.

Please select only one method of contact (voicemail OR email), no need for both an email and phone call, as we receive many messages a day.

Volunteers

Volunteer registration forms are done in School Engage this year, using your parent MYCBE Account www.cbe.ab.ca/mycbe

Filling out this form is optional, and it is only needed if you plan to volunteer with us. A new volunteer forms is required every school year.

  1. Log into your MYCBE Account
  2. Click on the School Engage icon
  3. Click on Volunteer form (+)
  4. Fill out the form and submit. Please note the MYCBE account holder must match the name on the volunteer application form being submitted.
  5. School will review it and either approve your form if you already have Police Clearance with the CBE or
  6. If you are not in our police check clearance database yet, we will enter your details. Next, you will receive an email from CPS within a few days.
  7. Calgary Police Service (CPS) emails newly registered volunteers directly once a week, prompting you to start the process.
  8. We are attaching the instructions for their system to this email (Calgary Board of Education VSPN Voucher Instructions). Please follow these instructions to guarantee your police check will be free – covered by the CBE and linked to our organization
  9. Once you have received your police clearance, please upload the letter to your CBE School Engage Volunteer form, or alternatively, show it to us at the school office.
  10. Final step: your status will change from “being processed” to “cleared” on our volunteer database.

New School Council Members

We need the help of our parent community, to ensure the success of our students and school initiatives. Together we support the kids and staff at West Ridge School by building community, supporting learning, and adding as much fun as we can.

 

We are in need of a few volunteers to fill the vacant roles for the 2025-2026 school year! If interested, please email wrscouncil@gmail.com  Time commitment averages around 2-5 hours per month.

 

Growing Smiles Fundraiser Host Needed

We are looking for a volunteer to help set up our annual spring flower fundraiser.  The biggest request is having access to your garage/driveway on flower delivery/pick-up day.  If you are able to help out with this request, please email infowrss@gmail.com  The date will be in late May to early June but registering our school for it is approaching quickly.
