Dear Parents/Guardians,

Here are our updates for the upcoming week:

Athletics

Wrestling

Wrestling season wrapped-up this week with the divisional tournament at the Genesis Centre. We had 9 athletes finish in first place and as a team we had the highest winning percentage, winning 69% of our matches. Congratulations to all student athletes who competed this season. We would also like to take this opportunity to thank Mr. Thompson and Mr. Dewit for their time and dedication to coaching again this season. Stay tuned for details about the wrap-up celebration.

Volleyball

Our Jr. and Sr. Boys Volleyball Teams each won both of their games with sweeps against A.E. Cross and Vincent Massey on Wednesday night. Our Jr. Girls split their sets against Massey and won their game against Cross. Our Sr. Girls split their sets against Cross and lost a tight battle with Massey. All of our teams are back in action next week with home games for our Jr. Boys (February 5) and Jr. Girls (February 6), so come out and support our athletes. The full schedule of games is posted on the Athletics Webpage.

Ski Trips

Our ski trips kicked-off yesterday with our first group of Grade 7 students skiing and snowboarding at Nakiska. Our second group of 7s was scheduled to go to Nakiska on February 4, however, the weather forecast is not in our favour so we will be looking at rescheduling this trip. An email with additional information will be forthcoming after we confirm details with Nakiska’s Ski School team. Our Grade 5s are headed to WinSport Canada Olympic Park on February 6. Huge thank you to all the parent volunteers who have stepped up to help with supervision and logistics on these busy days. Upcoming ski trips are as follows:

  • Feb. 4 - Grade 7s at Nakiska (homerooms 74 and 76) *attempting to reschedule
  • Feb. 6 - Grade 5s at WinSport
  • Feb. 10 - Grade 8s at Norquay
  • Feb. 12 - Grade 9s at Lake Louise
  • Feb. 27 - Grade 6s at Nakiska

Being a Good Neighbour

It has come to our attention that there have been a number of issues with some of the businesses across from the school.  Please remind your student about appropriate conduct when they are off campus.  As of recent, there were approximately 50 students loitering in the No Frills while waiting for the bus last week.  A reminder, to dress appropriately so that you are prepared to wait for the bus outside.  Students, refrain from running down the isles at the store, as you rush to 'make the bus'.  This creates safety concerns not only for you, but for other paying customers as well.  Unless you are entering an establishment to purchase something, you should not be hanging out in any of them.  Your mindfulness and attention to these concerns is key to maintaining a good neighbourly relationship with the businesses in our community.  Parents/Guardians, please have conversations with your kids about this concern.  Your attention to this is greatly appreciated
