Supporting Well-Being
Well-being is a precondition for student achievement. Student well-being supports learning and success. Students bring strengths, experiences, and capacities that can be nurtured through supportive relationships and inclusive learning environments. As students navigate challenges that are connected to mental health and well-being, we have an opportunity to strengthen belonging, build skills, and ensure access to responsive supports.
The CBE invites all parents and guardians to join us for a live online series focused on supporting child and youth well-being. Hosted by the Recovery Alberta Community Education Service (CES) Program in collaboration with experts from the Calgary community, this year's sessions will explore a range of timely topics.
These sessions are designed to equip families with the knowledge, tools, and strategies to navigate the challenges and opportunities of raising children and teens today.
These sessions are free and provide information, resources, helplines, and services to support healthy child and youth development.

Terry Fox Run
It’s that time of year where our school-wide Terry Fox Run is fast approaching. We will be hosting our two annual fundraising events the week of September 21.
The third annual Beepin’ for Bucks takes place at lunch time on September 22 on the soccer field. Students will compete in their grade groups in a Beep Test challenge. Entry costs $2.00 per student with all proceeds going to the Terry Fox Foundation. Students will be competing for the ultra-rare Beep Test Beast t-shirts!
Hit Me With Your Best Shot will happen at lunch time on September 23. Students will have an opportunity to purchase water balloons ($1.00 each or 6 for $5.00) and throw them at their teachers.
On Friday, October 2 there will be a full school assembly, followed by our Terry Fox Run outside. All students are encouraged to bring a Toonie for Terry if they are not participating in any of the above fundraising activities. In addition, the Terry Fox Foundation has set-up a donation page specifically for our school. If you would rather make a donation online. You can donate at this link.
Let's make this the best Terry Fox event in West Ridge history, but we can't do it without all of you!
Raptor Gear
West Ridge School is pleased to announce our online clothing store is now open and running for the 2026~2027 school year.
Visit https://westridgeapparel.itemorder.com to see all the amazing Raptor Gear that you can purchase. Both adult and youth apparel are available.
The store closes on Sunday, October 4, and items will be available for pick up at school three to four weeks later.
How To Train Your Dragon Jr. takes flight!
West Ridge Theatre is happy to announce this year's musical is How To Train Your Dragon Jr.
Auditions for Roles will take place October 5-7 (after school) with Callbacks for Specific Roles on October 8 (After School). Students auditioning for Specific Roles need to complete an AUDITION form that they bring with them to their AUDITION SLOT.
**Just like last year we will also be offering an ENSEMBLE ONLY audition for those students that just want to be in the show/are nervous to audition on their own Wednesday October 7 during the lunch hour.**
All audition instructions, sign up sheets, audition materials (song sheet music, scene, audition form) are outside the Drama Room.

Healthy Hunger - Subway - Sept 17
Please order by today, Saturday, Sept 12 to partake in Healthy Hunger from Subway next week. You will need to sign into Healthy Hunger and register your student. Take care to make sure you add them to the correct homeroom.
If you’d like to volunteer and help hand out lunches to students, you can sign up here. Please note that all volunteers must have a valid police clearance and their annual volunteer form filled out.

MADD Presentation – Grade 7 to 9
On Friday, WRS Grade 7, 8, and 9 students participated in a presentation from Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) focused on the dangers and consequences of impaired driving.
The presentation explored the impact of impaired driving on individuals, families, and communities through personal stories, victim impact statements, and dramatic reenactments. While the content was age-appropriate and intended to promote awareness and prevention, some students may have found portions of the presentation emotional or thought-provoking.
As with all learning, we encourage families to check in with their child over the coming days and provide an opportunity to discuss what they learned or any questions they may have. These conversations can be an important part of helping students process and reflect on the message presented.
Safe and Secure School
West Ridge School, like many other schools in the CBE, has a video surveillance system to help maintain a safe and secure environment at the school for students, staff and the public, and to help address vandalism and criminal activity on school property.
The video surveillance system is installed and reviewed in accordance with Administrative Regulation 1066. Personal information is collected under the authority of the Education Act and the Protection of Privacy Act (POPA), specifically section 10(1) and the Access to Information Act (ATIA).
This technology can be placed in areas such as the school parking lot, building entrances and exits, stairwells and hallways. This information is recorded and collected to help maintain a safe and secure environment in the school and on school property. The users of this information are the principal or designate and law enforcement personnel in the case of reported incidents that would require an investigation. Only authorized persons will review video surveillance information.
Inquiries concerning the video surveillance system, or the collection and use of recorded information may be made by contacting the school office.
Forms
Schools have a variety of forms that parents / legal guardians are required to complete or review and update, some of which are paper and others online. In CBE, the forms in an online format (SchoolEngage) are:
- Demographic Verification - 2026-27 – This required form is an Alberta Education and Childcare requirement as proof of Registration for funding purposes and includes your child’s personal information as well as parent / legal guardian contact information.
- Citizenship Information Update - 2026-27 – This form becomes available and is required to complete if you change your child’s citizenship information on the Demographic Verification form.
- Annual Authorization - 2026-27 – Combines the following forms
- School District Use of Personal Information - explains how CBE uses personal information in providing education services.
- Consent for CBE Use of Student Information – provides an option to grant / not grant consent for additional use of student information by school/district and third parties.
- Consent for Use of Student Information by News Media and Outside Groups (Third Party) - provides an option to grant / not grant consent for additional use of student information by outside groups and third parties
- Consent for Student Participation in Annual CBE Surveys – these surveys support school and system planning and help improve programs and supports offered to students
- Parental Opt-In for Notifiable curriculum for students in grades 3 to 9 – written consent of parents prior to providing instructions or materials that deal primarily and explicitly with human sexuality, gender identity or sexual orientation. Students are unable to participate in this portion of the curriculum unless consent is granted.
- Annual Authorization for Tryout form and the Fairness and Safety in Sport Act form (for female student athletes only) for any athletes wanting to play school sports. Please visit WRS Athletics' page for a digital copy of those forms
SchoolEngage is one of the applications found in your MyCBE account. This is the same account you use to pay fees, view academic information, book school conferences, register for busing, etc.
If you do not have a MyCBE account, on the MyCBE page click on Create a MyCBE Account. For online help refer to MyCBE - Creating an Account (includes instructions and a video).
All paper forms that need to be filled out and returned are printed on coloured paper and those with only information are printed on white paper. These forms will be sent home next week.
Please fill out the forms completely and return all forms, even those that might not be applicable, by Monday, September 14. This allows us to ensure that you have read and filled out all of the documents provided.
