Meet the Teacher Evening – Sept 24
West Ridge School is hosting the Meet the Teacher evening this Thursday, September 24, from 4:00 - 5:30 pm. We adjusted the time from last year so that families who also have children at West Springs School can attend their Meet the Teacher evening as well.
Families will have the opportunity to meet their child's teachers and tour West Ridge classrooms, P.E. and complementary course spaces throughout the evening. Please have your child(ren) be your tour guides and show you around the school and where their classes are. Mr. Lang, Mrs. Carter and other members of the leadership team will be floating around to answer any questions you might have as well. There will also be a donation table set up for the Terry Fox Run!
There will be no formal presentations and please note, this is not a conference and there is no time allotted to speak one one-on-one with your child’s teacher about your child and their learning. If this is required, please email your child’s teacher to set up a meeting at another time.
Families of students who have IPPs should have already received a survey/form to complete, and we are following up with families who requested to share further information.
We look forward to meeting new families and seeing familiar faces!
Terry Fox Run
It’s that time of year where our school-wide Terry Fox Run is fast approaching. We will be hosting our two annual fundraising events this week.
The third annual Beepin’ for Bucks takes place at lunch time on September 22 on the soccer field. Students will compete in their grade groups in a Beep Test challenge. Entry costs $2.00 per student with all proceeds going to the Terry Fox Foundation. Students will be competing for the ultra-rare Beep Test Beast t-shirts!
Hit Me With Your Best Shot will happen at lunch time on September 23. Students will have an opportunity to purchase water balloons ($1.00 each or 6 for $5.00) and throw them at their teachers.
On Friday, October 2 there will be a full school assembly, followed by our Terry Fox Run outside. All students are encouraged to bring a Toonie for Terry if they are not participating in any of the above fundraising activities.
In addition, the Terry Fox Foundation has set-up a donation page specifically for our school if you would rather donate online.
You can donate at this link.
Let's make this the best Terry Fox event in West Ridge history, but we can't do it without all of you!

Demographics Forms
We are still missing Demographic Verification forms for approximately 20% of West Ridge students. This required form is an Alberta Education and Childcare requirement as proof of Registration for funding purposes and includes your child’s personal information as well as parent / legal guardian contact information.
If you have not yet completed the forms through your MyCBE School Engage Account, please do so as soon as possible so that funding for West Ridge School is not impacted.
Raptor Shack
The Raptor Shack is now open! We offer a variety of affordable snacks and drinks for students to enjoy. Unfortunately, we are unable to offer meal options so please make sure your children also have a main item for lunch.
We do not accept debit or credit card payments, and we are unable to break large bills, so please send your children with change or smaller bills.
Safety During Drop-Off and Pick-Up
As the school year continues, we want to remind everyone of the importance of safety in our school zones, especially during drop-off and pick-up times. We are working on getting Student Safety Patrols up and running for this school year but there has been a delay from AMA for training.
The safety of your children is our number one priority, and that is why our Safety Patrol program is in place.
Here are a few key reminders to help ensure the safety of all students:
1. Avoid the Bus Zone: Please refrain from parking or dropping off your children in the designated bus zones. These areas must remain clear to ensure the smooth arrival and departure of school buses. This is directly in front of the school and to the east of the school.
2. No Drop-offs on the Road: For your child’s safety, do not drop off your child on the road. This can be extremely dangerous, as children may need to cross through traffic to reach the sidewalk or school entrance. This would also be considered jaywalking. Please remind them to use the cross walk.
3. Stop for Safety Patrols: When the Safety Patrols raise their stop signs, please come to a complete stop and do not proceed until the signs are down. This ensures that students and patrol members can cross safely without any risks.
Your cooperation is essential to creating a safe environment for all students. Thank you for doing your part to keep our school zone safe and following these guidelines.
