Dear Parents/Guardians,

Here are some updates for the coming week:

Please be advised that there will be no classes this Friday, April 18 due to the Good Friday holiday, and Monday, April 21, due to a Professional Development Day (PD Day) for the staff.

Students will return to the school building on Tuesday, April 22.

Student Locks

Please be advised that students are provided with a lock for the year, at no cost. At this time, due to the ongoing issues we’ve been having with lost or missing locks, shared combinations or students not securing their locks and having their lock disappear, we will have to start charging $12 for any missing locks. This will be added to your parent MYCBE account when or if it happens. Please talk to your child(ren) about not sharing combinations and making sure they lock their lockers each time they open/close it.

Athletics

Badminton

Our badminton tryouts are almost complete. We only have the following tryouts remaining…

Grade 7 Boys on April 14 at 7:15am
Grade 8 Boys on April 14 at 3:15pm
Grade 9 Boys and Girls on April 15 at 7:15am

There’s no school on April 18 due to Good Friday, so our next Grade 5 Developmental Badminton session will happen on April 25 starting at 7:30am.

Night of the Raptor

Preliminary planning is underway for our annual Night of the Raptors event. Night of the Raptors is a celebration of all things athletics and is open to any student, coach, or volunteer that was part of an inter-school team throughout the school year. At this point we are reaching out to our community to see if there is anyone that is willing to donate door prizes for this exciting event. If you have something you could donate please get in touch with Mr. Dixon via email (tcdixon@cbe.ab.ca).

Fundraising

We are doing a perogies and sausage fundraiser they can be purchased by visit the website. We are also attaching instructions.

2025-2026 School Year

An email went out to all families a few weeks ago asking that you let us know if your child(ren) will NOT return to West Ridge School in the fall. Please let us know as soon as possible if they are not coming back. Please reply to siarezo@cbe.ab.ca with the following information:

Full legal name
Next year school (CBE, non-CBE, out of Canada, out of Province, private, etc).

Please email the office only if your student is NOT coming. If your student is moving on to High School, there is no need for you to email us either.

West Ridge Parent Council/Society

New School Council and Society Members

We need the help of our parent community, to ensure the success of our students and school initiatives. Together we support the kids and staff at West Ridge School by building community, supporting learning, and adding as much fun as we can.

We are in need of volunteers to fill the vacant roles for the 2025-2026 school year! If interested, please email wrscouncil@gmail.com Time commitment averages around 1-3 hours per month.

Next School Council Meeting & Parent Talk - April 22at 6:30pm

Please join us for a School Council meeting and talk by Tracy Normandeau, a parent at WRS, who is a Police Officer, Fitness & Nutrition Coach, and Community Advocate. She will speak to the connection between physical health, mental well-being, and online behavior including topics such as online safety, cyberbullying, physical activity and healthy eating.

Parent Speaker Dr. Kelly Schwartz - May 21

Dr. Schwartz will speak to parents about our kids and their engagement with social media, mental health & resiliency. Mark it in your calendar. More information to come.

Bottle Drive - Tuesday, April 15

Our next bottle drive is next week. Please drop your bottles at the front of the school between 7am - 4pm. Thank you for supporting our students with your donations. Can’t make it by that day? You can also have Skip-the-Depot collect your bottles and donate the funds (link below).
