Athletics
Volleyball
Our Jr. Boys and Sr. Girls won both of their games this week, beating Bishop Pinkham (BP) and Griffith Woods (GW). The Sr. Boys beat BP and split their game with GW, while our Jr. Girls beat GW but lost to BP. All of our teams are on byes next week. Games will resume on February 19. Ski Trips
Our second ski trip happened yesterday with our Grade 5s having a blast at WinSport. We had three separate instructors approach us at the end of the day to tell us how respectful and well-behaved our students were, so big kudos to all of the Grade 5 students who attended that trip! Our next ski trip is happening on Monday, February 10 at Mount Norquay with the Grade 8s. Please refer to the email that was sent out earlier this week that included details about what to bring and how to dress. All students need to be at school by 7:00am to catch the bus by 7:15am. We will be returning to the school around 5:00pm. Upcoming ski trips are as follows:
- Feb. 10 - Grade 8s at Norquay
- Feb. 12 - Grade 9s at Lake Louise
- Feb. 18 - Grade 7s at Nakiska (homerooms 74 and 76)
- Feb. 27 - Grade 6s at Nakiska
Attendance
Please call 403-817-3552 and dial 1 if your child will be absent. Please leave a brief message including only the student’s last name, first name and reason for their absence.
Alternatively, please email us at westridge@cbe.ab.ca to report the absence.
Please select only one method of contact (voicemail OR email), no need for both an email and phone call, as we receive many messages a day.
Volunteers
Volunteer registration forms are done in School Engage this year, using your parent MyCBE Account.
Filling out this form is optional, and it is only needed if you plan to volunteer with us. A new volunteer forms is required every school year.
- Log into your MYCBE Account
- Click on the School Engage icon
- Click on Volunteer form (+)
- Fill out the form and submit
- School will review it and either approve your form if you already have Police Clearance with the CBE or
- If you are not in our police check clearance database yet, we will enter your details. Next, you will receive an email from CPS within a few days.
- Calgary Police Service (CPS) emails newly registered volunteers directly once a week, prompting you to start the process.
- We are attaching the instructions for their system to this email (Calgary Board of Education VSPN Voucher Instructions). Please follow these instructions to guarantee your police check will be free – covered by the CBE and linked to our organization
- Once you have received your police clearance, please upload the letter to your CBE School Engage Volunteer form, or alternatively, show it to us at the school office.
- Final step: your status will change from “being processed” to “cleared” on our volunteer database.
School Council / Parent Society
Next School Council Meeting will be held on Tuesday, February 18 at 6:30 pm.
Parent Speaker Suggestions
School Council would like to host a speaker for the parent community. In the past we have had talks focusing on supporting youth as they navigate difficult social situations as well as kids and social media. If you have suggestions for a speaker that you think the parent community would like to hear from, please email wrscouncil@gmail.com
New School Council Members
We need the help of our parent community, to ensure the success of our students and school initiatives. Together we support the kids and staff at West Ridge School by building community, supporting learning, and adding as much fun as we can.
