Here are our updates for the upcoming week:
Athletics
The final wrestling tournament of the season is happening this weekend at Tom Baines School. The girls are wrestling tonight (Jan. 17) starting at 3:45pm while the boys are competing tomorrow (Jan. 18) starting at 9:00am. The divisional tournament is on Jan. 28 at the Genesis Centre. More information to follow about that competition.
Our volleyball tryouts concluded this week. Congratulations to all of our student athletes who made a volleyball team and will be representing West Ridge during the upcoming season. The first league games start next week with our boys’ teams playing on Jan. 22 and our girls teams playing on Jan. 23. The Athletics Website has been updated to include all league games, tournaments, and practice times. Best of luck this season!
Our ski and snowboard trips are fast approaching. Forms for the Grade 9 trip were due today (Jan. 17), the Grade 8 forms are due on Monday (Jan. 20), and the Grade 6 forms are due by Feb. 3. These trips have been filling up incredibly fast and there is already a waitlist for both the Grade 6 and 9 trips. The fees for the Grade 7 trips (Jan. 30 and Feb. 4) have been posted to your MyCBE accounts. Please take the time to pay those fees as soon as possible. Fees for the other grades will be posted one week after the each form return dadline, as we process the different package option selected. If your child is still interested in attending a ski trip please ensure their forms are submitted by the above dates. Late forms will not be accepted.
Leadership
Bell Lets Talk Day is happening on Wednesday, January 22nd to raise awareness around Mental Health and ensure youth have access to mental health support. Leadership Students will be selling bracelets at lunch all week for $2.00 to raise money in support of The Summit, The Sinneave Center for Youth Resilience.

Please call 403-817-3552 and dial 1 if your child will be absent. Please leave a brief message including only the student’s last name, first name and reason for their absence.
Alternatively, please email us at westridge@cbe.ab.ca to report the absence.
Please select only one method of contact (voicemail OR email), no need for both an email and phone call, as we receive many messages a day.
Volunteers
Volunteer registration forms are done in School Engage this year, using your parent MYCBE Account www.cbe.ab.ca/mycbe
Filling out this form is optional, and it is only needed if you plan to volunteer with us. A new volunteer forms is required every school year.
- Log into your MYCBE Account
- Click on the School Engage icon
- Click on Volunteer form (+)
- Fill out the form and submit
- School will review it and either approve your form if you already have Police Clearance with the CBE or
- If you are not in our police check clearance database yet, we will enter your details. Next, you will receive an email from CPS within a few days.
- Calgary Police Service (CPS) emails newly registered volunteers directly once a week, prompting you to start the process.
- We are attaching the instructions for their system to this email (Calgary Board of Education VSPN Voucher Instructions). Please follow these instructions to guarantee your police check will be free – covered by the CBE and linked to our organization
- Once you have received your police clearance, please upload the letter to your CBE School Engage Volunteer form, or alternatively, show it to us at the school office.
- Final step: your status will change from “being processed” to “cleared” on our volunteer database.

Support our grade 9 grads with your leftover bottles. You can drop them off at the front of the school between 7am - 5pm
