Dear Parents/Guardians

We would like to share some key messages for the upcoming week.

Just a reminder that students are now off for Fall Break until November 13, returning to school on Thursday, November 14.

Today marks the end of an era, we are saying goodbye to Ms. Paxton, who is moving to her new school.  We would like to thank her for her dedication to West Ridge School over the years. She will be deeply missed.

We would like to welcome Mr. Rick Petrowitsch as our new Acting Assistant Principal, on Monday, November 18.

Heritage & Sailing Trip Fundraiser

Students participating in this year's Grade 9 Heritage & Sailing trips will be running a Kernels Popcorn fundraiser from Thursday, November 7 until Friday, November 22.

Our Kernels Popcorn Fundraising Snack Bags are an individual serving size in a heat-sealed foil bag with approximately 2.5 cups of popcorn. The foil bags look similar to a small chip bag. The weight of the bag varies depending on the flavours. All of the popcorn is nut and gluten free. Popcorn can be purchased in various salty flavours or creamy caramel.

We will be selling these products for $10 for 3 Bags or $36 per Case of 12. If you are interested in purchasing any combination of these items please connect with participating students or email Ms. Angel or Ms. Kapeller - meangel@cbe.ab.ca or hekapeller@cbe.ab.ca

Thank you in advance for your support of these educational opportunities.

Athletics

The Jr. Girls ended the regular season with two tough losses to F.E. Osborne and Branton. They finished in 5th place overall and will play Tom Baines in the quarter-finals on November 18 at Twelve Mile Coulee at 5:00pm. Our Jr. Boys capped-off their regular season with two victories against Sir John A. Macdonald and F.E. Osborne. We are still waiting on results from last night’s games, so it is unclear right now where they finished or when they’ll have their first playoff game. Our Sr. Girls also ended their season on a high note with two wins against Captain Nichola Goddard and Twelve Mile Coulee. They finished in 4th place overall and will compete against Twelve Mile Coulee in the quarter-finals November 18 at Nose Creek at 6:00pm. The Sr. Boys were on bye again this week and will complete their regular season on November 14 with games against Nose Creek (5:00pm) and Captain Nichola Goddard (7:00pm) right here in the Raptor Den.

The next Grade 5 Developmental Basketball session will be happening on Friday, November 15 from 7:30-8:15am. We hope to see you there!

Wrestling season started this week with practices on Tuesday and Thursday after school. Practices will continue to happen on Tuesdays and Thursdays going forward. The next practice will be on Thursday, November 14 after the Fall Break.

We still have a number of outstanding team and apparel fees. If you haven’t already done so, please ensure those fees have been paid. All fees are posted to your MyCBE accounts and can be paid now.

Safety Patrol

As the school year continues, we want to remind everyone of the importance of safety in our school zones, especially during drop-off and pick-up times. The safety of your children is our number one priority, and that is why our Safety Patrol program is in place.

Here are a few key reminders to help ensure the safety of all students:

  • **Stop for Safety Patrols**: When the Safety Patrols raise their stop signs, please come to a complete stop and do not proceed until the signs are down. This ensures that students and patrol members can cross safely without any risks.
  • **Avoid the Bus Zone**: Please refrain from parking or dropping off your children in the designated bus zone. This area must remain clear to ensure the smooth arrival and departure of school buses.
  • **No Drop-offs on the Road**: For your child’s safety, please do not drop off your child on the road. This can be extremely dangerous, as children may need to cross through traffic to reach the sidewalk or school entrance.

Your cooperation is essential to creating a safe environment for all students. Thank you for doing your part to keep our school zone safe and following these guidelines.
