Dear Parents/Guardians

We would like to share some key messages for the upcoming week, and wish you a happy long weekend!

Attendance

Please call 403-817-3552 and dial 1 if your child will be absent. Please leave a brief message including only the student’s last name, first name and reason for their absence.

Alternatively, please email us at westridge@cbe.ab.ca to report the absence.

Volunteers

Volunteer registration forms are done in School Engage this year, using your parent MyCBE Account www.cbe.ab.ca/mycbe

Filling out this form is optional, and it is only needed if you plan to volunteer with us. A new volunteer forms is required every school year.

  1. Log into your MYCBE Account
  2. Click on the School Engage icon
  3. Click on Volunteer form (+)
  4. Fill out the form and submit
  5. School will review it and either approve your form if you already have Police Clearance with the CBE (we check this in our system) or
  6. If you are not in our police check clearance database yet, we will issue you a letter for you to start your Police Clearance process online
  7. Calgary Police Service (CPS) emails newly registered volunteers directly once a week, prompting you to start the process. You will upload the letter provided by the school while completing their form
  8. We are attaching the instructions for their system to this email (Calgary Board of Education VSPN Voucher Instructions). Please follow these instructions to guarantee your police check will be free – covered by the CBE and linked to our organization
  9. Once you have received your police clearance, please upload the letter to your CBE School Engage Volunteer form.
  10. Final step: your status will change from “being processed” to “cleared” on our volunteer database.  Please keep in mind police check letters from the school are valid for 3 months  CBE Volunteer-VSPN-Voucher-Instructions.pdf

Demographic Verification Forms (School Engage)

Thank you to all of you who have submitted your Demographic Verification Form in School Engage – with or without changes.  Alberta Education requires that all families submit one, even if there are no changes.  We ask you to please submit this form as soon as possible, if you haven’t already done so.

Athletics

Huge congratulations to our Boys Soccer Team for winning the divisional championship on Wednesday. They beat Vincent Massey by a score of 7-1. This marks back-to-back championships for the boys team! Thank you to Ms. Angel and Ms. Armstrong for your time and dedication again this season. Our Girls Soccer Team began their playoff run last night in the semifinals against Vincent Massey. They lost a tough game but will now compete in the third-place game on October 15 against Griffith Woods. Best of luck as you close out your season ladies.

The Jr. Girls finished second and the Jr. Boys finished first in the North West Classic Basketball Tournament. Both of our Sr. Basketball Teams competed in the Ernest Manning Feeder Tournament last Friday. Our Sr. Girls finished in third place and our Sr. Boys finished second. Congratulations to all of our basketball teams for terrific performances in their recent tournaments. Our junior teams each started the regular season 1-1. Our junior girls lost to Tom Baines and beat Twelve Mile Coulee while our junior boys also lost to Tom Baines but won against William D. Pratt. The senior girls beat Nose Creek and tied Senator Patrick Burns as they continued their regular season yesterday. Our senior boys were back in action last night picking up two victories against William D. Pratt and Twelve Mile Coulee. Our Sr. Girls are on a bye week, but all of our other teams are back in action next week.

The third Grade 5 Developmental Basketball session is happening October 18 from 7:30-8:15am. We hope to see you there.

If you haven’t already done so, please ensure your athletic team fees and apparel fees have been paid. Everything (with the exception of the basketball hoodies) has been posted to your MyCBE account www.cbe.ab.ca/mycbe  and we are hoping things are paid as quickly as possible.

Our Athletics website is the best place to find the most current information regarding games, tournaments, and practice times.

Fees

Student fees are being added for course fees, athletics and some initial field trips. Please note the assigned fees will reflect the whole school year's optional courses. If your child is not taking one optional course in semester 1, they might be taking it in semester 2.

Please pay online using your parent MyCBE account.

Lunch Supervision

Grade 5/6 students staying at the school during the lunch hour, need a Lunch Supervision Registration completed, also in your MyCBE account.

Safety Patrol

As the school year continues, we want to remind everyone of the importance of safety in our school zones, especially during drop-off and pick-up times. The safety of your children is our number one priority, and that is why our Safety Patrol program is in place.

Here are a few key reminders to help ensure the safety of all students:

1. **Stop for Safety Patrols**: When the Safety Patrols raise their stop signs, please come to a complete stop and do not proceed until the signs are down. This ensures that students and patrol members can cross safely without any risks.

2. **Avoid the Bus Zone**: Please refrain from parking or dropping off your children in the designated bus zone. This area must remain clear to ensure the smooth arrival and departure of school buses.

3. **No Drop-offs on the Road**: For your child’s safety, please do not drop off your child on the road. This can be extremely dangerous, as children may need to cross through traffic to reach the sidewalk or school entrance.

Your cooperation is essential to creating a safe environment for all students. Thank you for doing your part to keep our school zone safe and following these guidelines.
