Dear Parents/Guardians

Thank you, Raptor Families, for your support of our Terry Fox Run. We set a school goal to raise $3000.00 and through online donations, the Beep Test Challenge, Toonies for Terry, and our Hit Them With Your Best Shot Water Balloon challenge we have met this goal!!

Attendance

Please call 403-817-3552 and dial 1 if your child will be absent. Please leave a brief message including only the student’s last name, first name and reason for their absence.

Alternatively, please email us at westridge@cbe.ab.ca to report the absence.

Volunteers

Volunteer registration forms are done in School Engage this year, using your parent MyCBE Account.

Please note we have now started going through all the online volunteer applications, to approve them. Once your volunteer registration form has been approved, you will receive an email generated by the system prompting you to complete your online police check. We will issue you a police clearance letter if you are not already cleared in our system. If you are already cleared, you will not need to complete a new police check.

Demographic Verification Forms (School Engage)

Thank you to all of you who have submitted your Demographic Verification Form in School Engage – with or without changes.  Alberta Education requires that all families submit one, even if there are no changes.  We ask you to please submit this form as soon as possible, if you haven’t already done so.

Athletics

The Cross-Country final results are in and West Ridge did very well again this season. Out of the eleven different age categories, we placed top three in eight of them and we had first place finishes in Youth Girls, Youth Boys, and Intermediate Boys. Congratulations on another successful season!

Our Boys Soccer Team beat A.E. Cross yesterday with a score of 5-1. That game wraps-up the regular season, placing them in 2nd place heading into the playoffs. Their first playoff game will be on Monday at 4:30pm at West Ridge against Griffith Woods. With a win they’ll be playing in the finals on Wednesday. Our Girls Soccer Team played to a 1-1 tie on Tuesday against Griffith Woods and will compete at A.E. Cross today at 4:30pm. Best of luck as you close-out the regular season ladies.

Our Senior Girls Basketball Team started the regular season by splitting their games last night in the Raptor Den. They lost to Branton but then beat Pratt in their second game of the evening. Our Senior Boys Basketball Team tips-off their season tonight with games against Tom Baines and Senator Patrick Burns. Our Junior Boys Basketball Team won both of their games last night in the North West Classic Tournament, earning them a berth in the championship game on Friday. Our Junior Girls Basketball Team play their first games of that same tournament tonight. Best of luck the rest of the way!

Our first Grade 5 Developmental Basketball session will be happening tomorrow morning from 7:30-8:15am. This is open to any Grade 5 students who want to learn more about the game and have some fun while doing it. We hope to see you there!

If you haven’t already done so, please ensure your athletic team fees and apparel fees have been paid. Everything (with the exception of the basketball hoodies) has been posted to your MyCBE accounts and we are hoping things are paid in a timely manner.

As always, please visit our Athletics website for up-to-date information regarding games, tournaments, and practice times.

Fees

Student fees are being added for course fees, athletics and some initial field trips.  Please pay online using your parent MyCBE account.

Grade 5/6 students staying at the school during the lunch hour, need a Lunch Supervision Registration completed, also in your MyCBE account.

Up-cycling Denim

The grade 7 and grade 8 Fashion Design and Production classes will be doing a project focusing on environmental stewardship and need used denim before it gets sent to landfill.  If you have jeans, or other denim clothing no longer being used in your homes, you can bring them to the fashion room for up-cycling. Mrs. Lonsdale will have a bin outside her room to collect donations.

Safety Patrol

As the school year continues, we want to remind everyone of the importance of safety in our school zones, especially during drop-off and pick-up times. The safety of your children is our number one priority, and that is why our Safety Patrol program is in place.

Here are a few key reminders to help ensure the safety of all students:

1. **Stop for Safety Patrols**: When the Safety Patrols raise their stop signs, please come to a complete stop and do not proceed until the signs are down. This ensures that students and patrol members can cross safely without any risks.

2. **Avoid the Bus Zone**: Please refrain from parking or dropping off your children in the designated bus zone. This area must remain clear to ensure the smooth arrival and departure of school buses.

3. **No Drop-offs on the Road**: For your child’s safety, please do not drop off your child on the road. This can be extremely dangerous, as children may need to cross through traffic to reach the sidewalk or school entrance.

Your cooperation is essential to creating a safe environment for all students. Thank you for doing your part to keep our school zone safe and following these guidelines.
