Dear Parents/Guardians

Thank you for coming out last night, it was great seeing all of you. This coming Monday, September 30, schools are closed in recognition of National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

Athletics

The Cross-Country season wrapped-up earlier this week. We are still waiting on the final results, but we are proud of all of our athletes who competed this season. We would also like to thank Mr. Balogh, Mr. Mansell, and Ms. Gouthro for coaching another successful season.

Our Boys’ Soccer Team is off to a blazing start with wins over Vincent Massey 2-1 and then against Griffith Woods 6-0. The boys are back in action on October 2 at  A.E. Cross. Our Girls’ Soccer Team lost a tough game to Vincent Massey on Tuesday. They’ll be looking to bounce back next week with games on October 1 (vs. Griffith Woods @ West Ridge) and October 3 (at A.E. Cross). Best of luck next week.

Our Jr. and Sr. Boys Basketball Teams walk away with a pair of victories in their exhibition games against Vincent Massey on Wednesday. Both of our junior teams are competing in the North West Classic Jr. Basketball Tournament next week co-hosted by H.D. Cartwright and Simon Fraser Schools. Good luck to both teams.

Grade 5 Developmental Basketball tips off on October 4 from 7:30-8:15am. These sessions are open to any Grade 5 students who want to learn more about the game of basketball and have fun while doing it.

If you haven’t already done so, please take a minute to pay any outstanding team fees and/or apparel fees. Everything should now be posted in your MyCBE account. We would appreciate those fees being paid in a timely manner.

All dates and times for all of our inter-school sports are posted on the Athletics website

Please pay online using your parent MyCBE account.

Safety Patrol

As the school year continues, we want to remind everyone of the importance of safety in our school zones, especially during drop-off and pick-up times. The safety of your children is our number one priority, and that is why our Safety Patrol program is in place.

Here are a few key reminders to help ensure the safety of all students:

1. **Stop for Safety Patrols**: When the Safety Patrols raise their stop signs, please come to a complete stop and do not proceed until the signs are down. This ensures that students and patrol members can cross safely without any risks.

2. **Avoid the Bus Zone**: Please refrain from parking or dropping off your children in the designated bus zone. This area must remain clear to ensure the smooth arrival and departure of school buses.

3. **No Drop-offs on the Road**: For your child’s safety, please do not drop off your child on the road. This can be extremely dangerous, as children may need to cross through traffic to reach the sidewalk or school entrance.

Your cooperation is essential to creating a safe environment for all students. Thank you for doing your part to keep our school zone safe and following these guidelines.

Healthy Hunger

All of our Healthy Hunger dates for the school year are now set up.  You can place your orders at www.healthyhunger.ca

Volunteers - in general

We always love when parents want to come and help out with various tasks both in and out of school!  We often ask for help through Sign-Up Genius but sometimes we’re in need of help in other areas.  If you’d like to help out from time to time, or have a suggestion of things we can do, please send an email to infowrss@gmail.com and we will keep your name on our list.  Different volunteer opportunities are things such as:

  • Handing out fundraiser items like apples or flowers
  • Joining the grade 9 grad committee
  • Helping out our executives on Council or Society and maybe joining the team next year (we will need new members next year with some of our parents leaving us at the end of this year)
  • Offering a fundraising ideas and helping out with them
