WRS The Week Ahead: December 11th-15th
Dear Families,
A quick note to say thank you to all of our parent volunteers who are helping out with some of our field trips today! It was a busy morning with our two grade 6 field trips (urban hiking & the ski day) and the grade nine open house at Ernest Manning. We would not be able to offer these opportunities without the help of our parents.
We also wanted to share something with those families who have grade nine students – our students have been invited to Central Memorial High School & CTC Center’s Open House & Industry Night on December 13th from 5:30 to 8:30 pm at Central Memorial High School.
We hope you have a fantastic long weekend and enjoy some of the beautiful snow we had today!
Mr. Connelly & Ms. Paxton
Updates this coming week for families are:
Student Leadership Update
Our Leadership students are still collecting donations for the Veteran’s Food Bank and Toy Mountain. If you would like to donate items to either of these causes please send them with your child to hand in to their homeroom teacher.
Just a quick reminder from Anna L. that…
“On Thursday December 14th we will be holding a Winter Wonderland themed dance! Doors will open at 6pm and the dance will end at 8pm. Entry will cost $2 or students may donate a non-perishable food item for the Veterans Food Bank instead.
The Raptor Shack will have snacks and drinks that students may purchase with cash. Candy cane cane-grams will also be available to purchase with cash! There will be a photo booth where students can have their picture taken, and our own Mr. Braynen will be our DJ for the night! Leadership students will also be collecting Toy Mountain donations along with Veterans Food Bank donations that students can bring in.”
PE Weekly Update
The Sr. Boys Basketball Team finished 2nd in the city finals. They had a terrific season and are back-to-back division champions. We are very proud of the season they’ve had. Thank you to all of the basketball coaches, Ms. Lonsdale, Ms. Frei, Mr. Braynen, Ms. Kaminski, Ms. Gerow, and Mr. Dixon, for your time and dedication to Raptor Athletics this past season.
Congratulations to all our West Ridge wrestlers after a great showing at the 3rd Annual Maverick Melee Tournament at William D. Pratt School. More than a dozen athletes from Grades 6-9 fought hard on the mat and achieved a win ratio of 65%, second highest among teams with more than 5 wrestlers, which is a huge achievement for a young team. Way to go!!
The Grade 6 ski/snowboard trip to Canada Olympic Park is happening today, as well as the hiking and outdoor skills field trip to Fish Creek Park. We hope you have a fantastic outing. Details are just being finalized for the Grade 7, 8, and 9 ski/snowboard trips this year. As in year’s past, the Grade 7s are going to Nakiska, the Grade 8s are headed to Norquay, and the Grade 9s will be at Lake Louise. All trips will be happening in February. More details will be coming soon. Stay tuned!
Lost and Found
Thank you to all of you who have looked through the lost and found tables. We will be leaving the lost and found items out on tables just outside the front office for one more week and then unclaimed items will be bagged up and donated. Please remind your child that if they are missing anything to come take a look!
