Dear Families,

Can you believe there is only one more week until the Winter Break!  We have a full week next week and then some well-deserved time off to spend with family and friends!

Speaking of friends, the WRS Comic Club would like to share this:

“We have a Comic Book Club where we share and make comics.  This comic club is awesome because everyone likes it and we get to spill our creativity onto a piece of paper!  It also teaches us ways to present our work!  If you would like to join our club we meet on Thursday’s at lunch in the Learning Commons.”

Updates this coming week for families are:

Student Leadership Update – Winter Wonderland Dance & Spirit Week

“On Thursday December 14^th we will be holding a Winter Wonderland themed dance! Doors will open at 6pm and the dance will end at 8pm. Entry will cost $2 or students may donate a non-perishable food item for the Veterans Food Bank instead.

The Raptor Shack will have snacks and drinks that students may purchase with cash. Candy cane cane-grams will also be available to purchase with cash! There will be a photo booth where students can have their picture taken, and our own Mr. Braynen will be our DJ for the night! Leadership students will also be collecting Toy Mountain donations along with Veterans Food Bank donations that students can bring in.”

Next week is Spirit Week where we will be asking students to participate in the following events:

Tuesday, Dec 19^th – Jersey Day

Wednesday, Dec 20^th – Crazy Hair

Thursday, Dec 21^st – Ugly Sweaters

PE Weekly Update

The Wrestling Team is competing in the Thunder Takedown Wrestling Tournament at Peter Lougheed School Dec. 15-16. The girls are competing on December 15 starting at 4:00pm while the boys are wrestling on December 16 starting at 10:00am. Best of luck to all athletes who are participating in this tournament.

 

The results from the Maverick Melee Wrestling Tournament are in. Congratulations to the following athletes for your top three performances last week.

Child and Youth Well-Being: A Webinar Series for Parents and Guardians 

Teen brains are amazing, but working with brains under construction comes with challenges. How do you nurture and appreciate this time? Adolescence is known across cultures as a tough time for both teens and adults who support them.  Adults and teens can work together to form a deeper understanding of what is happening in the brain creating a deeper understanding of one another. Band Update

Students in the grade 7 band and our grade 8/9 will be performing in our Band Concert on December 20^th from 7-8pm.  Please feel free to join us that evening in support of our incredible students!

Some of our grade 9s will be going sailing in 2024 and they have a coffee fundraiser (Rebel Beans in Okotoks) happening right now.  If you’d like to support this group, you can order coffee at the link below.  Make sure to put in West Ridge School as the team you’re supporting. Ordering is available until Dec 22nd and delivery will be in the new year.
