Dear Families,

This last week we had many things happening inside the building: photo retakes, grade 7 zoo field trips, school council, Healthy Hunger, etc.  It is nice to feel the energy in the building and hear the excitement when students talk about their learning.

Just a quick reminder that our doors open in the morning at 8:20am and students should be dressed for the weather if they are arriving early.  It has been a ‘little’ cold this week!

Updates this coming week for families are:

Child and Youth Well-Being: A Webinar Series for Parents and Guardians 

Well-being is a precondition for learning. As our understanding of student well-being continues to evolve, it is important for those that support children and youth to stay up to date on the same information so everyone can support student success.  

The Calgary Board of Education invites all parents and guardians to join us in an online series focusing on child and youth well-being. These sessions will be hosted in partnership with experts from Alberta Health Services and will explore topics such as vaping, brain development, mental health, and sexual health.

This next session is November 16^th 6:30-8:00pm, and focuses on Understanding Vaping: Across Canada, e-cigarette use, also known as vaping, is reaching new heights amongst teenagers. This presentation will focus on common devices used for vaping, substances vaped such as nicotine and cannabis, and the health risks associated with vaping. We will present on how to engage in challenging conversations with your young person regarding vaping.

Messages from School Council & Society

Council and Budget Meeting

Thank you to all those who attended our council and society budget meeting last night.  Here is a quick update on what was approved at the budget meeting last night:

$33,600 for technology

$9,945 to Academics

$6,500 to Literacy

$7,000 to Arts

$500 to Patrols

Only a partial budget was presented and the rest will be voted on at November’s meeting.  If you couldn’t make it last night and would like to see the minutes, they will be posted to the school website by next week.

It’s a week away and we STILL NEED 16 VOLUNTEERS!!!! Most of those spots are for Sunday and Monday.  Sign up please!  If you have a friend or a relative who could help out, share it with them!  This event raises so much money for our school ($60,000 - $70,000) and it’s an easy event to help out with.
