Dear Families,

Another week gone already! We are full steam ahead now as our tryouts are well underway for soccer and basketball. It has been lovely seeing our cross-country runners in the morning as they move through the neighborhood on their running route. Fall seems to be creeping in as our mornings are definitely chillier!

Just a reminder that next week we have our Meet the Teacher night on Sept 21^st from 6-7:30pm. We will be welcoming everyone in the main gym first and then you will have time to connect with teachers in their classrooms after the presentation.

Grade 9 parents who have expressed interest in our 2023-24 Sailing Trip this year will be meeting at 5pm in the Learning Commons to hear more information about the trip.

We are looking forward to connecting with many of our families over the next week!

Finding Nemo the musical has arrived at West Ridge for its Canadian premiere!

Audition materials are outside Mrs. Lutz's Drama room, with auditions taking place October 2-4, and Callbacks on October 5. Come sign up for a time slot, grab an audition form, a scene and a song and get ready to Go With the Flow!

Mrs. Lutz is very excited to see all that West Ridge talent!

West Ridge is happy to be opening our School Clothing store again this year! Order online to get your West Ridge gear! Girls Soccer

The girls soccer team is well underway. There will be one more practice on Monday, followed by our first game next Wednesday, Sept 20^th. We hope to you are able to join us on the pitch to cheer on our amazing team! In order to hand out uniforms and participate in games, players need to bring in their forms and deposits to Ms. Gallagher, and team fee (paid through myCBE account) by Monday, September 18^th. We are so excited for this soccer season!

PE Weekly Update

Both of our soccer teams have been selected and are looking forward to their first games next week. Congratulations to all of the athletes that were selected to represent West Ridge this season. The boys first game is on Sept. 19 while the girls first game is Sept. 20. Both games are against Vincent Massey here at West Ridge field. Come out and support our soccer teams!

The first cross-country meet of the season occurred on Sept. 13 and was a BIG success. We had a fantastic turnout with around 80 athletes competing across all age divisions. The results aren’t in yet, but Mr. Balogh reports we had numerous high-ranking finishes. The next meet is scheduled for Nov. 19 at North Glenmore Park. Keep up the excellent work!

The senior girls and boys basketball teams have been selected. There was some very tough competition and coaches were left with difficult decisions. Congratulations to all the student athletes who were selected to the senior basketball teams this season. Junior tryouts have started and will continue again tomorrow and next week at the following dates/times:

• Sept. 15 - Jr. Girls Tryout #2 @ 7:15am
• Sept. 18 - Jr. Boys Tryout #3 @ 3:30pm
• Sept. 19 - Jr. Girls Tryout #3 @ 3:30pm

Just a reminder that our first Grade 5 Developmental Basketball session will occur on Friday, October 6 from 7:30-8:15am. This program is open to any Grade 5 students who would like to continue developing their basketball skills in a fun environment.

We have our council meeting dates set for the year. We will be alternating days and times this year in an effort to allow more people to attend overall. All meetings will be held at West Ridge school other than one that will be virtual (marked below).

What happens at these meetings? We have an update from our Principal and Assistant Principal of things happening at the school and through CBE, teachers or other speakers come to chat about specific topics, updates on fundraising and how it's being spent as well as it being a great way to meet other parents in our community.

Apple Fundraiser

Thank you to everyone who supported this fundraiser. Apples will be available to pick up on September 27th at West Ridge from 3-4pm and then from 6-9pm at a parent's house (address will be emailed out).
